Fellowship - Biology of Aging, Buck Institute, Novato, CA

Dr. Fisher is an attending on the ambulatory care rotation and in the geriatric assessment clinic at the Omaha VA. He also contributes to the core lecture series. In addition to his leadership role, Dr. Fisher is a geriatrics researcher and provides mentorship to fellows with research interests. Research interests include; metabolic changes in aging.

Karina Bishop, M.D., CMD

Fellowship - Geriatric Medicine, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE

Dr.  Bishop is the medical director of the Douglas County Health Center. Dr. Bishop is an attending on the Long Term and Sub-Acute Care rotation and longitudinal nursing home care. Dr. Bishop is a supervisor to fellows who participate in the mentoring certified medical director program through the American Medical Directors Association. Dr. Bishop contributes to the core lectures series and is a mentor for quality improvement in the nursing home setting.

Dr. Bonasera is an attending on the home-based primary care rotation. As a geriatric medicine researcher, he provides mentorship to fellows with research interests. Research interests includes; cognitive and functional monitoring, dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Dr. Eberle is the Omaha VA Chief of Extended Care and Rehabilitation and provides additional support to the Palliative Medicine Inpatient service as needed. In addition to her leadership role and clinical supervision, Dr. Eberle contributes to the core lecture series.

Dr. Harlow is an attending on the ambulatory care rotation and contributes to the core lecture series. Dr. Harlow is the director of medical student education within the division of geriatric medicine. Dr. Harlow mentors fellows who have an interest in curriculum development and other scholarly projects related to medical student education. Dr. Harlow also contributes to the core lectures series.

Dr. Hejkal is an attending on the ambulatory care rotation and in the geriatric assessment clinic. He also contributes to the core lecture series. Dr. Hejkal currently split his time between general inpatient medicine and geriatrics.

Dr. Jenkins is an attending on the ambulatory care rotation and in the geriatric assessment clinic. She also contributes to the core lecture series. Dr. Jenkins currently splits her time between general inpatient medicine and geriatrics.

Dr. Koll is primarily a geriatric medicine researcher, she provides mentorship to fellows with research interests. Research interests include; hematologic diseases and disorders, oncology, and geriatric transplant assessment. Dr. Koll also contributes to the core lectures series.

Lou Lukas, M.D.
Associate Professor

Dr. Lou Lukas is an attending physician on the Palliative Medicine Consult Service at the Omaha VA Hospital. Dr. Lukas serves as a mentor and clinical supervisor during the fellow’s inpatient palliative medicine consult service rotation. In addition to her clinical supervision, Dr. Lukas contributes to the program core lecture series.

William Lyons, M.D.

In July of 2019, Dr. Lyons assumed the role of the fellowship program director. Dr. Lyons is an attending in the fellow's continuity clinic, geriatrics assessment clinic, and the geriatric evaluation management clinic. Dr. Lyons is a presenter for many topics in the core lectures series. Dr. Lyons mentors fellows in academic writing projects (e.g., book chapters in geriatrics textbooks).

Dr. Manley is medical director at Hillcrest Hospice and Home Care. Dr, Manley is available to supervise fellows in the mentored certified medical director program and provides fellows with the opportunities to see community-based hospice care and home care. Dr. Manley contributes to the core lectures series and organizes the medical direction lectures series.

Dr. Potter is the medical director of the Geriatric Medicine Clinic, an attending on the ambulatory care rotation is a presenter for many topics in the core lectures series and is a mentor for either quality improvement or scholarly projects. Dr. Potter is the principal investigator on the Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program grant. Dr. Potter mentors fellows in academic writing projects (eg, book chapters, research poster presentations).

Dr. Teply is the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship program director. Her clinical duties include; outpatient IM primary care and outpatient palliative medicine.
