International Healthcare Services at University of Nebraska Medical Center
We are dedicated in serving international patients across the globe, is dedicated to reaching outside the borders of the USA. It is the mission of the Global Partnership Program at UNMC to assist in the management of patient care through the development of collegial relationships that know no boundaries.
Our Global Partners include their country’s leading cancer and medical centers in the private and public sectors, as well as Ministries of Health. We also have partnerships with universities, and colleges of medicine and nursing. We form a very important network of professionals dedicated to excellence in patient care, medical second opinions, training, education and research.
No other institution in the USA has a program of no-cost training and education to match ours. We are proud to say that through our partnership programs, we have access to some of the finest physicians in the world.
We are one of the foremost hospitals in the US for Cancer Care, Transplantation, Neurology, Neurosurgery and Cardiology.
From Omaha, Nebraska; the heartland of USA, we operate more than 300 outpatient clinics in 100 communities in 5 US states, and have 123 international collaborative partnerships in 44 countries. There are 689 licensed in-patient beds and 30 operating rooms with comprehensive treatment centers for oncology/hematology, general oncology, radiation oncology, stem cell transplantation, solid organ transplantation, cardiology, orthopedics, neurology, geriatric medicine, diabetes, women’s health, neurological sciences, vascular center for all circulatory disorders, intestinal rehabilitation, executive physicals, Novalis shaped beam surgery, donate life services, pharmacy, minimally invasive surgery, physical and occupational therapy and swallowing center. The magneto encephalograph (MEG) scanner provides doctors the ability to look inside the brain with greater vision that’s never been possible before, giving patients in need of brain surgery the assurance of a safer and more effective surgery and allowing doctors to identify the region of the brain giving rise to epileptic seizures.
Our new state-of-the-art Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center is scheduled to open next year. The center will provide the latest patient care.
Nebraska Medicine is known for excellence, innovation and quality patient care. As the teaching hospital for the University of Nebraska Medical Center, has an international reputation for providing solid organ and bone marrow transplantation as well as lymphoma, leukemia and neurological services.
The Bio containment Unit at Nebraska Medicine currently the only center accessible to civilians in the United States equipped to safely care for anyone exposed to a contagious and dangerous disease, like Ebola.
University of Nebraska Medical Center celebrated its 40th anniversary of Kidney Transplant Program by performing over 5,000 transplants. We also celebrated 25 years for our Liver Transplant Program, completing more than 3,020 liver transplants and 397 small bowel transplants. We are one of the first centers and pioneers in Bone Marrow and Peripheral Stem Cell Transplants. Our Multi-Organ Transplant program has been successfully performing transplant surgeries for more than 40 years, for all Liver, Kidney, Heart, Intestines, Lung, Small Bowel, Bone Marrow and Stem Cell.
We are only one of the four US institutions for pediatric and adult Intestinal and Small Bowel Transplants. We have been recognized for Outstanding Stroke and Cardiovascular Care two consecutive years.
University of Nebraska Medical Center oncologists have completed more than 4,000 stem cell transplants, treating patients from every continent around the world.
Awards & Designations
U.S. News and World Report surveyed the nation’s roughly 5,000 hospitals to come up with this year’s list of Best Hospitals. Just 3 percent of the hospitals analyzed for Best Hospitals earned national ranking in even one specialty. Nebraska Medicine was nationally ranked in both Nephrology and Urology for 2015-16, and was once again named #1 in Nebraska. Becker’s Hospital Review has named Nebraska Medicine as one of the 100 Best Hospitals in America for two straight years.
According to Newsweek’s list of “Top Cancer Doctors 2015,” 75 percent of the top cancer doctors in the state are at Nebraska Medicine.
For thirteen consecutive years Nebraska Medicine has been named the National Consumer Choice Award winner as a result of a large consumer study conducted by The National Research Corporation (NRC). The goal of the survey is to determine the best quality health care service in the region.
Nebraska Medicine has achieved Magnet designation for the second time from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Magnet designation is given to organizations that demonstrate successful nursing practices and strategies. In order to meet Magnet criteria, Nebraska Medicine had to demonstrate quality patient care, nursing excellence and the implementation of best practices.
Nebraska Medicine received the 2015 America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics – Women’s Choice Award. The America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics distinction is unique in that it is the ONLY national list that focuses on female patient satisfaction and represents hospitals that women can feel confident in choosing for their maternity needs.
Nebraska Medicine is accredited by the American College of Surgeons for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and accredited by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.
Nebraska Medicine was nationally recognized as a National Pancreas Foundation Center (NPF) by the National Pancreas Foundation – one of only 30 hospitals in the nation, and the only hospital in Nebraska to receive this prominent designation.

International Patient care
International Healthcare Services at Nebraska Medicine is established with only one goal in mind – to assist our patient’s healthcare needs and manage their patient-care. No-Cost training programs for Developing Countries
The purpose of our International Strategic Partnership Program is to assist international medical institutions, physicians, nurses and healthcare specialists to acquire additional skills and expertise in their areas of interest. We offer customized programs for healthcare professionals to participate in our dynamic multi-faceted, no-cost and extended for-fee programs. These programs offer opportunities to train here in the United States and at Nebraska Medicine side by side with our renowned specialists in over 50 specialties/sub-specialties.
Second Opinion and Tele-Pathology
We offer Electronic Tele-Pathology and 2nd Opinion consultation services. These services allow healthcare colleagues to utilize over 50 sub-specialties at our pathology and genetics facilities. You are welcome to obtain consultation, Pathology reviews and recommendations for treatment for the most complicated cases with collaboration of our world renowned specialists.
