Research provides a direct link to improved techniques and increased success in transplant and cancer medicine. One of the most exciting elements of The Lied Transplant Center is the potential to break new ground in these areas and other serious illnesses such as diabetes.
Building on UNMC’s strong traditions in transplant and cancer research, The Lied Transplant Center will facilitate basic and clinical research by encouraging greater interaction among researchers and health-care providers. This creates a unique atmosphere for greater collaboration, discovery and application of new knowledge.
The team of professionals in the kidney and pancreas transplant program at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine is widely recognized for their expertise and innovation. The program continues to achieve graft and patient survival rates that rank above the national average in adult, pediatric and living-related donor transplants. Clinical and basic research currently focuses on such issues as immunosuppression and islet cell transplantation.
