Areas of Interest
The primary focus of my work is to understand the basic cellular and molecular mechanisms behind alcohol-induced organ dysfunction and loss of homeostasis. My specific interest is to understand the functional role of macroautophagy (autophagy), a major macromolecule degrading pathway and its selective forms (lipophagy, mitophagy), in the pathophysiology of alcohol-Induced tissue Injury (AITI). The long-term goal of my research is to identify underlying biological mechanisms, therapeutic targets and strategies to prevent, treat or alleviate AITI.
