Oncology and Hematology

The Division of Oncology and Hematology is interested in the diagnosis and treatment of all malignancies (cancers) that occur in adults. Treatment may include chemotherapy and immunotherapy, or pathway directed agents. High dose therapy with bone marrow or peripheral stem cell transplantation is also available. The Division of Oncology's physicians specialize in all types of cancers including: lymphomas, leukemia, multiple myeloma, urologic, breast, lung, gastrointestinal, brain cancer, melanoma, and all other solid tumors. .

In addition the division has specialists, who are experts in the treatment of patients with blood diseases such as anemia, bleeding disorders, and clotting problems. Along with the Pediatric Hem/Onc Division, the adult Hem/Onc  Division is home to the Nebraska Regional Hemophilia Treatment Center which treats adult and pediatric patients from across the state with bleeding disorders.

The Division of Oncology and Hematology is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), Through the leadership alliance of the nation's 27 Member Institutions, NCCN cancer centers continue to advance cancer care, develop and institute standards of care for the treatment of cancer and perform outcomes research with the good of ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost-effective services to cancer patients nationwide.

The Division of Oncology-Hematology is extremely active in clinical research with clinical trials, including Institutional Investigator-Initiated, NCI-NIH sponsored, Industrial pharmaceutical sponsored and monitored phase I-III trials.  We are a participating member of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, NCI sponsored Non-Institutional cooperative groups clinical trials.  Oncology-Hematology is also a voluntary participating research reporting center to the Center for International Blood & Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) for advancement of hematopoietic cell transplantation and cellular therapy including mandated HRSA reporting for allogeneic products.  Collection, infusion and research reporting Center with National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Match Registry and product procurement as well as a participating member of Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (BMT CTN) for multi-institutional hematopoietic stem cell transplant clincial trials.
