The Department of Internal Medicine has an active research program, with investigators involved in clinical, translational and basic science research. Our research funding from external sources is approximately $20 million annually.
Our research activities are based at both UNMC and the Omaha VA, and are within the 10 sub-specialties (divisions) of internal medicine. The Divisions of Internal Medicine include: Cardiology; Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism; Gastroenterology and Hepatology; General Internal Medicine; Geriatrics and Gerontology; Infectious Diseases; Nephrology; Oncology and Hematology; Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep and Allergy; and Rheumatology and Immunology. Each division has individual representation on the department's Internal Medicine Research Council.
