Joseph Dougherty, MD

Name:
Joe Dougherty, MD

Hometown:
Lincoln, NE

Where did you go for Undergraduate and Medical School?
Undergrad: University of Nebraska - Lincoln (Go Big Red!)
Medical School: UNMC

Career aspirations:
Undecided but debating between being a hybrid general internist (part-time hospitalist and primary care), rheumatology, or even infectious diseases.

What was your first job?
In middle school I started working as a food vendor in Memorial Stadium during Husker football games.  It was great, got to watch Husker football games for free as a side perk (back when we were slightly better).

Where is the furthest you've travelled from Omaha?
Havana, Cuba. 10/10 would recommend.

If you couldn't work in medicine, what would you do?
I earned my undergraduate degree in engineering so I'd probably be doing something in the biomedical field. I love sports (unfortunately I'm nowhere near athletic enough to make that a career) but I think being a sports statistician would also be an awesome job.

Best thing to do in Nebraska if you only had one day?
I would without a doubt suggest going down to Lincoln for a Husker football game.  I would recommend heading down early in the morning to start tailgating, go to the game and get a Runza or Vals pizza (or both), and in between all of that check out many of the great restaurants and bars downtown in the Haymarket or Railyard.

Most fond residency experience or memory up to this point?
All of the various get togethers with my awesome co-residents such as happy hours, dinners, bowling, trivia nights, Friendsgiving, Husker game tailgates, etc.!
