Internal Medicine Residency

Our Internal Medicine training program is one of the premier residencies in the nation.  Our training is rigorous (reflected by a 98% board pass rate over the past 15 years), but we are small enough to ensure that our residents receive personal attention, and that no one gets lost in the crowd.  UNMC Internal Medicine residents are highly intelligent and very motivated, but (perhaps reflecting our Midwestern roots) friendly, outgoing, and fun to work and play with.

The UNMC campus might not be recognizable to people who trained here just a few years ago.  Many new research and clinical buildings have sprung up, reflecting our surge in academic activity and renown.  Our residents work alongside faculty with national reputations in many internal medicine subspecialties, and many choose to pursue fellowship training at highly-competitive programs across the country or here at home.

UNMC is also a national leader in training superb generalist physicians.  On the inpatient side, several of our hospitalists win annual teaching awards.  In the outpatient setting, our innovative Midtown Clinic is an interprofessional, resident-run clinic (providing house staff with practical schooling in how to run a real medical practice).  Midtown Clinic is NCQA-certified as a patient-centered medical home.
