Using TurnItIn with your Canvas course

Using TurnItIn outside of Canvas 

Turn-It-In recommends the features are accessed through Canvas.
An Instructor can simply check the submission for plagiarism outside of Canvas by creating an account via the Turnitin website: https://www.turnitin.com/newuser_type.asp?lang=en_us

NOTE: To create an account outside of Canvas, you need a Join Key. Please contact the UNMC Help Desk (402.559.7700 or helpdesk@unmc.edu). Once we have verified your UNMC affiliation, we will give you the join key. 

Creating a Class
  1. Click "Add Class" on the homepage.
  2. Enter the Class Settings. (The Enrollment Key is whatever you decide.)
  3. Click "Submit".
  4. Next, click "Continue".
Adding Students
  1. Open your class by clicking the class title on the homepage.
  2. Click the "Students" tab.
  3. Click "Add Student" to add each student indvidually or click "Upload Student List" to upload a list of students. (Excel, Word, or plain text) Note: For each user in your list, you must include the user's first name, last name, and e-mail address in this order: first name, last name, email address
Adding an Assignment
  1. Open your class by clicking the class title on the homepage.
  2. Click "Add Assignment".
  3. Enter the title and complete the desired assignment option.
  4. Click "Submit".
  5. Enter Assignment options and click "Submit".
Students - Uploading a File
  1. Log in at https://www.turnitin.com/newuser_type.asp?lang=en_us
  2. Click the course link.
  3. Review the assignment.
  4. From the More Actions menu (next to the assignment), select "Submit".
  5. Enter necessary info and select the file you want to upload. Note: Valid file types include: Microsoft Word (DOC, DOCX), PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX, PPS, PPSX), Acrobat PDF, PostScript, Text, HTML, WordPerfect (WPD), OpenOffice (ODT), Rich Text Format and Hangul (HWP)
  6. Click "Upload". 
  7. When complete, click "Confirm".
