Meyer Foundation for Disabilities
A supporting board of the Munroe-Meyer Institute
The Meyer Foundation for Disabilities (MFD) is dedicated to enhancing the lives of the thousands of adults with disabilities in the Omaha metro area by offering them recreational, social and life skills programs.
MMI programs and activities funded
The Meyer Foundation for Disabilities supports multiple programs at the Institute including
- Cooking classes
- Dance and swim lessons
- Group outings
- Reading clubs
Besides offering fun, the programs are therapeutic, improving physical and cognitive, capabilities. They promote inclusion for people with disabilities, who often become isolated when they age out of the school system. And they provide hours of much-needed respite, or a break, for families and caregivers.
Annual fundraising event
Each March, MFD hosts the Walk and Roll for Disabilities. This event is a short, non-competitive walk indoors to raise money for adult recreational therapy programming at the Munroe-Meyer Institute.
More than 300 people participate in this event and that the walk raises about $30,000 annually.
