Disability and Health Emergency Preparedness Assessment
Emergencies and disasters can strike quickly and without warning, forcing people to quickly leave their homes or be confined there unexpectedly. For the millions of Americans who have disabilities, emergencies such as fires, floods and tornadoes present a real challenge. The Ready Campaign is a national public service campaign designed to educate and empower the American people to prepare for, respond to and lessen the impact of emergencies, including natural and man-made disasters. The goal of the campaign is to promote preparedness through public involvement.
The Ready Campaign asks individuals to do four key things:
- Stay informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur and their appropriate responses;
- Make a family emergency plan;
- Build an emergency supply kit; and
- Get involved in your community by taking action to prepare for emergencies.
For more information on emergency and disaster preparedness for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers, visit the Ready Campaign.
