Occupational therapy training opportunities at MMI

The department of Occupational Therapy provides pre-service clinical training to graduate students from contracted professional programs in Nebraska and throughout the Midwest. We offer a school-based pediatric fieldwork experience for Level I and Level II students, as the majority of our staff provides educationally related services to verified students ages 3-21 in a large, metropolitan school district. Medical model learning opportunities are incorporated into each student’s experience according to availability. Level I students are paired with a different clinical instructor each day, and Level II students split their time with two clinical instructors with distinctly different caseloads. We make every effort to expose our students to the full range of services provided by our experienced and specialized staff of pediatric therapists.

We also offer an AOTA approved 12 month Pediatric Occupational Therapy Fellowship, which includes formal collaborations with the Children’s Hospital & Medical Center occupational therapy department and is aligned with the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s LEND postdoctoral fellowship for advanced leadership training in neuro-developmental disabilities.  Our fellowship year begins on July 1st and concludes June 30th.  Applicants must have a clinical doctorate degree (OTD) in occupational therapy from an ACOTE accredited education program, have passed the NBCOT exam, and be eligible for NE licensure.  Please contact Janice Flegle, M.A., OTR/L BCP for additional information about this mentored fellowship and/or questions about the application process.
