Professional Summary
Joe Graham, MEd, PLMHP, is a predoctoral intern in the Comprehensive School-Based Mental Health Program at the Munroe Meyer Institute Department of Psychology at UNMC. Joe is earning his doctorate in School Psychology from the University of Florida where he received clinical training to provide evidence-based behavioral consultation, therapy, and comprehensive evaluation services to children and adolescents. He has worked with youth with neurodevelopmental, externalizing, internalizing, adjustment, relational and trauma-related concerns in rural communities. Joe has collaborated with educators, caregivers, and community-based providers to facilitate services for students and their families. He also has experience providing professional development training to teachers, paraprofessional educators and school administrators. Topics have included strategies to manage students’ behaviors through a multi-tiered system of support, options of evidence-based interventions, skills to support students experiencing significant social, emotional and behavioral concerns, and skills to identify and reduce one’s unintentional biases. Joe’s research experiences and interests include efforts to enhance students’ equitable discipline experiences and mental health service outcomes, improve evidence-based mental health services within school systems, and promote teachers’ mental health. To relax, Joe likes to cheer on his favorite sports teams, try out new recipes and find the next adventure with his chihuahua, Samson.

Teaching
- Joe was lead instructor of EDG4910 at the University of Florida, a course for undergraduate students to gain foundational knowledge in school mental health in tandem with data collection experiences in schools from 2017 - 2019. The course objectives trained students to critically analyze and discuss current research, practices, trainings and policy in school mental health by developing a research proposal presentation.
Research Interests and Projects
- Project Reducing Inequities in School Environments (RISE), a study that tests the impact of teacher stress reduction, unintentional bias training and data disaggregation implemented within a multi-tiered system of support for behavior and mental health on students’ discipline and mental health service outcomes.
- I Control Study, a manualized curriculum targeting executive functions and goal setting skills for middle school students with emotional and behavioral disorders.
- Enhance students’ equitable discipline experiences and mental health service outcomes.
