Professional Summary

Jessica Thompson is a Speech-Language Pathologist in the department of speech-language pathology at the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute. After obtaining a Master of the Arts in speech-language pathology from the George Washington University, Jessica Thompson joined MMI as an outpatient speech-language pathologist to complete her clinical fellowship. She is currently the outpatient coordinator for the speech-language pathology department. With a former career as a professional opera singer, Jessica has a primary focus on voice disorders, particularly in professional voice users. While at GWU, Jessica developed an interest in gender diverse voice therapy, joining Dr. Adrienne B. Hancock, PhD, CCC-SLP in a research study exploring the effects of healthy singing on speaking voices in this population. Additional interests include working with adults with Parkinson’s disease, head and neck cancer, and dysphagia.

She has performed several title opera roles including “Violetta” (La Traviata), “Manon” (Massenet’s Manon), and “Vixen” (Cunning Little Vixen), in addition to the world premier performance and recording of Louis Karchin’s Jane Eyre. She served as Company Manager for the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York City from 2012-2017.
