Accepting international specimens for testing is dependent upon UNMC import control approval that is based on strict government regulations. Review information in the client guide manual and inquire by email.
International requirements for specimen transportation
- Because of international shipping regulations combined with our need to process a fresh tissue specimen within 48 hours of collection, we recommend only extracted DNA or paraffin embedded tissue be sent internationally.
- Postnatal and cancer microarray testing can be performed on 5 micrograms of extracted DNA transported at room temperature in a microcentrifuge tube. The laboratory requires that isolation of DNA for clinical testing occurs in a CLIA-certified laboratory or a laboratory meeting equivalent requirements as determined by the CAP and/or the CMS.
- Some testing can be performed on paraffin embedded tissue, including FISH analysis and pregnancy loss microarray.
