Vacation
Sick Leave
All residents are eligible for 20 vacation days during each academic year. If vacation days are unused, 10 may roll over into the following year.
Vacation Request Considerations:
- Requests are strongly encouraged to be submitted as early as April or May prior to the beginning of the academic year, as the chief resident of operations will take requests into consideration when creating the rotation schedule.
- VA continuity clinics require more than 120 days advanced notice in order to be closed for vacation, otherwise the resident is responsible for arranging clinic coverage in their absence.
- Vacations up to two weeks are permitted during a single rotation, however, residents must be present for greater than 50% of each rotation to receive credit. Residents are encouraged to make arrangements with the assistance of the chief resident as far in advance as possible for any vacation requests for two weeks or longer.
- Residents are discouraged from taking leave during inpatient months or during the month of July, however, these are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Sick Leave
If a resident is ill and unable to perform their clinical duties, they are asked to notify our program coordinator, Crystal Upshaw, as well as the chief resident of operations as soon as possible. They will assist in finding coverage (if applicable) or will notify the attending for the resident's current rotation that they will be absent.
