Decathlon kicks off today with group walk

The 10-week UNMC Winter Activity Decathlon kicks off today at the Durham Outpatient Center West Atrium with a noon indoor walk around campus.

Participate in the UNMC Decathlon and increase your activity level with a wide range of activities.
Today’s walk is one of 10 weekly group activities throughout the challenge, which is designed to increase activity among employees and show us the activity options that are available on campus.

Participants (once registered) will be given a list of easy, moderate and difficult activities to choose from, and those who do at least one a week for all 10 weeks can win a cool long-sleeve T-shirt.

Easy activities could include doing desk Yoga, or using no elevators for a day. Moderate activities might include a Pilates class at the Center for Healthy Living or ice skating for 15 minutes. And difficult activities could be running the Field Club Trail and back, or climbing The Lied Transplant Center stairs in three minutes or less.

But the weekly group activities count toward the T-shirt, too.

Access online resources for the challenge, like videos, campus tunnel maps and fitness class schedules, at www.unmc.edu/decathlon.

And while the challenge starts today, you still have until Feb. 25 to register online.
