Astronaut and Nebraska native Clayton Anderson will give the Harold and Marian Andersen Lectureship for Orthopaedic Surgery on June 21 at the 2013 UNMC orthopaedic surgery residency graduation.

Anderson will be joined by visiting professor Bernard F. Morrey, M.D., professor of orthopedics at the Mayo Clinic and the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

Graduating residents include Annie Knierim, M.D., Nolan May, M.D., Eric Samuelson, M.D., and Jeremy Toomey, M.D.

Anderson and Dr. Morrey will speak on June 21, the first day of a two-day event that will include resident and faculty presentations. June 22 will feature presentations on “Challenging Orthopaedic Problems of the Upper Extremity.”

Anderson and Dr. Morrey’s speeches are open to the university community, but doors will be closed between sessions. Dr. Morrey will speak at 10 a.m. and Anderson will speak at 11 a.m. in Room 1005 of the Sorrell Center. The presentations also are available on a live videostream.

Harold Andersen is a former publisher of the Omaha World-Herald,and his wife Marian is the former head of the Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross. The Andersens are longtime supporters of the orthopaedic surgery department.
