Student spotlight – Amanda Harlow

Education is one of the four pillars of UNMC’s mission and our students are the lifeblood of that aspect of campus life.

In UNMC Today’s Student Spotlight, we get to know some of these students, who will become tomorrow’s health care professionals.

What is your best memory from your time at UNMC??

I loved taking anatomy and being in the lab. One of my classmates started what we called “the hemostat game.” The concept was to attach a hemostat to someone’s scrubs without them noticing. One day I must have been very engrossed with what I was doing because when I turned around I found at least four hemostats attached to my scrubs and a group of friends laughing at me!

Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.

As a student senator, I’ve the pleasure of working with a body of students representing their respective colleges. Every time I attend a meeting or Student Senate activity, I not only witness a wide variety of individuals working together, but I also get the opportunity to partake in it. The teamwork that these students show has proven fruitful for the students and the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I’m a graduate of Truman State University (I have to say this. My classmates will laugh.)
  • My favorite hobbies are cooking and entertaining for family and friends.
  • I’m the proud mother of a 3-year-old Shih Tzu named Jake.
