The UNMC College of Pharmacy continues its trajectory as a pound-for-pound research powerhouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With only 42 full-time equivalent faculty, the college is among the smallest of the nation\u2019s 142 accredited schools and colleges of pharmacy. But UNMC punches above its weight, finishing seventh in the nation in federal research grant dollars per full-time faculty member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNMC College of Pharmacy earned more than $12 million in federal grant dollars for fiscal year 2022. That\u2019s nearly $287,000 per faculty member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That also puts the college in the top 20 nationally in total federal grant dollars, according to statistics and rankings compiled by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese research dollars and rankings are reflective of the hard work by our faculty and supportive staff and their commitment to improving health care,\u201d said Keith Olsen, PharmD, Joseph D. Williams Endowed Dean of the UNMC College of Pharmacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The college\u2019s total research funding last year was more than $15.9 million, a 24% increase over the previous fiscal year. In addition to funding from the National Institutes of Health and other federal sources, the college also earned backing from the State of Nebraska, U.S. Department of Defense, National Science Foundation and the pharmaceutical industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are very proud of our faculty in the college and our continued ability to generate research funding,\u201d said Aaron Mohs, PhD, the college\u2019s associate dean for research and graduate studies. \u201cThe impact goes beyond the dollar amounts. It reflects our ability to perform high impact research, engage in meaningful collaborations throughout UNMC and provide outstanding opportunities for our graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and it demonstrates perseverance in a highly competitive funding environment. Ultimately, this will positively impact the health and well-being of Nebraskans and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
