The UNMC College of Medicine received grant and funding awards representing more than $3 million in new funding in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelsey Klute, MD,<\/strong> internal medicine-oncology\/hematology, received a grant of $367,440 from the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network for Precision Promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karen Gould, PhD,<\/strong> genetics, cell biology and anatomy, received a grant of $300,000 from U.S. Army\/USAMRAA\/CDMRP for a study of somatic mutations in non-Ig loci in autoreactive B cells as drivers of lupus pathogenesis and disease heterogeneity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gurudutt Pendyala, PhD,<\/strong> anesthesiology, received a grant of $259,304 from DHHS\/NIH\/NIDA for a study of mechanisms underlying prescription opioid use post social defeat in HIV+ adolescents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeffrey Salomon, MD,<\/strong> pediatrics-critical care, received a grant of $231,000 from the national American Heart Association for a study of the impact of intestinal dysbiosis and inflammatory metabolites after pediatric surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jill Beck, MD,<\/strong> pediatrics-hematology\/oncology, received seven subawards totaling $146,400 from Children\u2019s Hospital & Medical Center-Omaha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maegen Wallace, MD,<\/strong> orthopaedic surgery, received a grant of $90,295 from the Baylor College of Medicine for the Brittle Bone Disorders Consortium of the Rare Disease Clinical Research Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christopher Conrady, MD, PhD,<\/strong> ophthalmology and visual sciences, received a grant of $90,000 from the Knights Templar Eye Foundation Inc for a study on acute retinal necrosis in children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua Mammen, MD, PhD,<\/strong> surgery-surgical oncology, received a grant of $60,000 from DHHS\/NIH\/NCI as COG CHMC subaward – per case reimbursement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eleanor Gradidge, MD,<\/strong> pediatrics-critical care, received a grant of $58,714 from the University of Alabama-Birmingham for a trial of azithromycin for RSV-induced respiratory failure in children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jairam Krishnamurthy, MD,<\/strong> internal medicine-oncology\/hematology, received a grant of $42,868 from the Big Ten Cancer Consortium for a study of Alpelisib (BYL719) in combination with continued endocrine therapy following progression on endocrine therapy in hormone receptor positive, HER2 negative, PIK3CA mutant metastatic breast cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrew Vasey, MD,<\/strong> internal medicine-general medicine, received a grant of $28,596  from the University of Mississippi Medical Center for a study of Immulina as an antiviral immune modulator for patients with PASC and persistent inflammation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sara Bares, MD,<\/strong> internal medicine-infectious diseases, received a grant of $17,005 from Massachusetts General Hospital for 1\/2 REPRIEVE extension for trial completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kuan-Hua Chen, PhD,<\/strong> neurological sciences, received a grant of $13,999 from the Nebraska Bankers Association Equipment Grants\/U.N. Foundation for enhancing UNMC’s Neuroimaging Core for Magnetoencephalography (MEG) and autonomic nervous system monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shilpa Buch, PhD,<\/strong> pharmacology and experimental neurosciences, received a grant of $7,703 from Florida International University for studying pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and toxicological interactions among opioids and Cabotegravir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vikas Kumar, PhD,<\/strong> genetics, cell biology and anatomy, received a grant of $5,486 from the Nebraska Bankers Association Equipment Grants\/U.N. Foundation for NBA – Probe Sonicator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Douglas Stoller, MD, PhD,<\/strong> internal medicine-cardiovascular, received funding for a study to evaluate Mavacamten in adults with symptomatic non-obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natalia Castillo Almeida, MD,<\/strong> internal medicine-infectious diseases, received funding for a phase 3 master protocol to evaluate the safety, tolerability and immunogenicity of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) prefusion F subunit vaccine in adults at high risk of severe RSV disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kerry Rodabaugh, MD,<\/strong> obstetrics-gynecology, received funding for a study of SQZ-eAPC-HPV as monotherapy and in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors in patients with HPV16+ recurrent, locally advanced or metastatic solid tumors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jason Payne, MD,<\/strong> internal medicine-cardiovascular, received funding for the Abbott atrial fibrillation post-approval study; also for an assessment of implantable CCM in the heart failure group with higher ejection fraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paul Fey, PhD,<\/strong> pathology and microbiology, received funding for evaluation of VITEK REVEAL Rapid AST System vs. MicroScan for antimicrobial susceptibility testing of gram-negative bacteria from positive blood cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
