Each summer for the past 25 years, the Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska has been raising money for cancer research and growing hope for cures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The effort since 1998 has generated more than $17 million for UNMC\u2019s Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Weborg family of Cuming County was this year\u2019s party host, welcoming record numbers of caring and generous folks to their Weborg Feedlot Co. south of Pender for two days of hospitality and fundraising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 5,000 people passed through the gates June 2 and 3 to promote beef, showcase rural Nebraska and raise money for a cause that touches everyone either directly or indirectly. According to the American Cancer Society, roughly one out of three Americans will get a cancer diagnosis at some point in their life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among those representing the University of Nebraska System (in western attire) were President Ted Carter; UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey Gold, MD.; Ken Cowan, MD, PhD, director of the Fred & Pamela Cancer Center; and Christopher Kratochvil, MD, interim vice chancellor for external relations for UNMC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final tally for cancer research isn\u2019t expected to be announced until this fall, but 90% of the profits have been pledged to the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, with 10% donated back to the host community for health and wellness programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organizers already are at work on the 26th<\/sup> Cattlemen’s Ball \u2013 June 7 and 8, 2024, in Minatare in Scotts Bluff County. The Panhandle party will be hosted by the Schiff family of Schiff Farms. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
