CAP accreditation for Public Health Lab<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May, the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory at UNMC received accreditation by the College of American Pathologists<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peter Iwen, PhD, director of the NPHL, applauded the work of his laboratory staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CAP is the world\u2019s largest organization of board-certified pathologists and the leading provider of laboratory accreditation and proficiency testing programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAccreditation by the CAP verifies that the laboratory meets the best possible standards to achieve diagnostic confidence and recognizes the laboratory for excellence as a quality laboratory by peers,\u201d Dr. Iwen said, adding that the lab staff\u2019s \u201cdaily adherence to the rigorous standards\u201d of the CAP made the accreditation possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accreditation is based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAPS\u2019s accreditation programming.  During the process, inspectors examined the laboratory\u2019s records and quality control of procedures. CAP inspectors also examined laboratory staff qualification, equipment, facilities, safety program records and overall management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NPHL is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Public health lab receives national awards<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory were honored on May 24 during the Association of Public Health Laboratories<\/a> annual conference in Sacramento, California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily McCutchen, manager for the NPHL, was awarded the Emerging Leader Award, which recognizes an individual whose leadership has been instrumental in one or more advances in laboratory science, practice, management, policy or education early in their career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NPHL also received the Healthiest Laboratory Award, which recognizes an APHL member laboratory that is committed to safety, environmental process, environmental policy and employee health and wellness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Login changes for parking, Canvas applications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, July 10, logins for the UNMC parking and Canvas applications will be upgraded for campus users. The change should have no visible impact to users or users experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Users should contact the UNMC Helpdesk at 402-559-7700 or by email<\/a> if they experience problems logging in to either application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sidewalk closure along Ronald McDonald House<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sidewalk located just south of the Ronald McDonald House will be closed through July 18 during construction. The closed section is along Jones Street between 38th<\/sup> and 39th<\/sup> streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
