Angela Johnson, EdD, has been named assistant dean at the UNMC College of Nursing Northern Division<\/a> in Norfolk after serving in the position on an interim basis for the past six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Johnson joined the Northern Division as an instructor in 2015 and moved into an assistant professor position after completing her EdD in 2021.\u202fShe said the position will allow her to move the Northern Division forward while growing as a leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am excited to continue developing and expanding as a premier leader in nursing education while supporting the future of the Northern Division,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lepaine Sharp-McHenry, DNP, dean of the UNMC College of Nursing, said, \u201cDr. Johnson\u2019s accomplishments over the past six months have been shared with me, and it’s clear that her commitment and dedication to the Northern Division, the College of Nursing and UNMC has positioned her well to be the assistant dean.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juliann Sebastian, PhD, former dean of the UNMC College of Nursing, said Johnson\u2019s exhibition of leadership as interim and her vision for the future of the Northern Division made her a viable candidate for the position of assistant dean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the new leader of the Northern Division, Dr. Johnson said she can see where the division can grow and has a vision for the future. She mentioned the need to increase the visibility of the campus and community engagement in Norfolk. Solving that and other challenges, she said, will be one of the most exciting aspects of the role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Johnson said she approaches leadership from a team-centered standpoint because it lends to collaboration and personal growth for faculty, staff and students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have demonstrated key strengths for success by bringing a mix of systems thinking and creativity in my ability to generate original ideas, solve complex problems and understand large systems,\u201d she said. \u201cI love collaborating in teams of diverse talents and skills to help others grow and have provided mentorship to new faculty.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
