{"id":101076,"date":"2023-07-10T01:58:00","date_gmt":"2023-07-10T06:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=101076"},"modified":"2023-07-07T11:08:47","modified_gmt":"2023-07-07T16:08:47","slug":"nomination-deadline-for-research-awards-is-july-28","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/07\/10\/nomination-deadline-for-research-awards-is-july-28\/","title":{"rendered":"Nomination deadline for research awards is July 28"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>The UNMC Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research is seeking nominations for UNMC&#8217;s annual research awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominations for the following awards are due by July 28:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>New Investigator Award<\/strong>: Nominees should be assistant professors or higher and have received their first independent national funding within fiscal year 2022 (July 1, 2022 \u2013 June 30, 2023).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Distinguished Scientist Award<\/strong>: Nominees should have at least one year of service at UNMC, hold the position of associate professor or above and have a track record of securing extramural funding at UNMC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Research Leadership Award<\/strong>: This accolade is reserved for previous recipients of the Distinguished Scientist Award with a continued record of consistent national funding and demonstrated research leadership at UNMC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Scientist Laureate Award<\/strong>: As UNMC\u2019s highest research honor, nominees must meet all criteria for Distinguished Scientists and have a minimum of five years of service at UNMC prior to the award year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone is eligible to submit a nomination on behalf of a faculty member, and self-nominations are accepted. Submit nominations with a copy of the nominee\u2019s curriculum vitae through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nuramp.nebraska.edu\/competitions\/start-application\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NuRamp internal competitions application<\/a>\u00a0on or before July 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In prior years, the Distinguished Scientist Awards Ceremony was held in late winter of the year following the nomination period. This year\u2019s timeline for the nomination process has been moved up to allow for the 2023 awards ceremony to occur near the end of the calendar year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/research\/distinguished-scientists\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Learn more about past award winners.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Final candidates will be selected based upon volume and impact of publications, research funding and evidence of research collaboration with colleagues. Honorees will be announced as part of UNMC\u2019s Distinguished Scientist Awards Ceremony in fall 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Questions about the nomination process can be directed to\u00a0<a
