UNMC\u2019s fall Interprofessional Education (IPE) Day will be held Aug. 16 on all five campuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe August UNMC statewide IPE event introduces first-year students to the principles of collaborative care,\u201d said Devin Nickol, MD, associate dean for IPE and professor in the department of internal medicine. \u201cAn essential part of training for all health professionals, IPE provides students with the necessary skills to function on interprofessional teams while caring for patients and populations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day begins with a panel discussion of a clinical case and moves into faculty-facilitated small group activities designed to illustrate the challenges of group communication and teamwork. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faculty interested in serving as a small-group facilitator on any of the five campuses are asked to complete this form<\/a> by July 26. No clinical experience is required to be a facilitator. Prior to the event, all facilitators will be invited to a training session to review the IPE material and campus specific information. Those who participate will receive a certificate to be included in their promotion and tenure portfolio. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis event is a great opportunity to take part in the earliest stages of training for our students and to help guide them during the development of their new professional identities,\u201d Dr. Nickol said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
