The UNMC Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research will host Brian Detter, a longtime federal consultant to UNMC, as he makes a presentation on campus today from noon to 1 p.m. about how to obtain research funding through a new federal program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) is a new program designed to support truly innovative biomedical research. ARPA-H\u2019s goal is to fund health research that will have a real-world impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his presentation, Detter will explain the simple and straightforward process to access this funding, anticipated to be $6.5 billion over the next three years, as well as ideas on how to apply for other funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based in the Washington, DC, area, Detter is an expert in federal research and development programs and has worked both inside and outside government. He previously worked as deputy assistant secretary of the U.S. Navy, where he oversaw research and development. He also worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development, the State Department and U.S. Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
