She also will be appointed the Stokes-Shackleford Professor of Physiology.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She has been serving as the department\u2019s interim chair since July 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNMC College of Medicine Dean Bradley Britigan, MD, announced the appointment Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pleased to announce this appointment,\u201d Dr. Britigan said. \u201cDr. Gundry\u2019s efforts over the past year as interim chair show that she is the right leader to provide a foundation and vision for the future success of the department\u2019s faculty, staff and students \u2013 a foundation that embraces the proud and illustrious history of physiology at UNMC, while simultaneously incorporating the rapid, ongoing broadening of the field.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Said Dr. Gundry, \u201cI am grateful for the opportunity to work together with the talented faculty, staff, and students in our department and commit to cultivating a culture of collaboration, innovation, inclusion, and excellence. It is an honor to serve in this role, and I look forward to building on our strong history to recruit additional talented faculty and trainees and work with my colleagues to grow our academic and research programs within the department and institution.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, Dr. Gundry had served as the vice chair of the department, as well as a professor and assistant chief for basic and translational research in the UNMC Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and the director of the CardiOmics Program, an initiative within the Center for Heart and Vascular Research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A fellow of the American Heart Association, Dr. Gundry was named director of the UNMC Center for Heart and Vascular Research in August 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An internationally recognized researcher, she was named a UNMC Distinguished Scientist in 2021 for her research work involving diseases of the heart. Also in 2021, she received the prestigious Emerging Investigator Award from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health. In 2023, she received the Clinical and Translational Proteomics Award from the international Human Proteome Organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Gundry is deputy editor of the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology PLUS, an official journal of the International Society for Heart Research, and she has more than 70 peer-reviewed publications.
