In addition to her faculty appointment, Dr. Hayes previously served as assistant dean for students and multicultural affairs in the UNMC College of Medicine. She was the recipient of the 2023 UNMC Unsung Hero Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Hayes succeeds Jessica Koran-Scholl, PhD, who stepped down from the ombuds role after accepting a position with a family medicine residency program in Clearwater, Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI will miss working with Dr. Koran-Scholl, who did an excellent job for our UNMC Ombuds Program this past year after replacing longtime ombuds Dr. Sue Swindells,\u201d Dr. Carver said. \u201cI look forward to working with Dr. Hayes, who is an outstanding addition to our program. Her long record of service to UNMC is much appreciated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ombuds program is an independent, informal, impartial and confidential resource for students, faculty and staff. Ombuds assist members of the UNMC community in resolving conflicts informally, voluntarily and privately. The ombuds team provides behind-the-scenes, off-the-record consultations on a wide variety of problems, especially those concerns that are confusing, complicated, upsetting or not being addressed through other university channels. The Ombuds Program is not an \u201coffice of notice\u201d for filing formal complaints, grievances or appeals.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kristie Hayes, MD,
