UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, will host a forum to discuss campus safety Sept. 27 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Sorrell Center, now set to be held in Room 4053, or via Zoom<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Gold will be joined by Dele Davies, MD, senior vice chancellor of academic affairs; Diane Mack, director of emergency management; Charlotte Evans, associate vice chancellor, chief of police, public safety; Katie Schultis, UNMC student president and student regent; Phil Covington, EdD, associate vice chancellor for student success; and Sarah Fischer, PhD, director of wellness programming, for the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forum will focus on key issues in UNMC\u2019s commitments to public safety for individuals and the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Said Dr. Gold, \u201cAs it begins to get darker earlier, this forum will provide an opportunity to address basic safety issues, allow us to reemphasize our commitment to public safety on campus and offer strategies and guidance if the campus is faced with a dangerous situation. We all own this together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Davies said, \u201cWe value all our students, faculty and staff. And if they have issues or concerns, there are avenues in place to address them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forum also will discuss recent on-campus violence in other parts of the country, in the context of UNMC\u2019s own campus safety plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe take campus safety seriously, and we have many policies and procedures in place to enhance campus safety,\u201d Dr. Davies said. \u201cBut it\u2019s also a chance to remind everyone \u2013 if you see something, say something. Don\u2019t be \u2018Nebraska nice\u2019 and let someone follow you into a building.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group of speakers will be on hand to provide information and answer questions on correct safety procedures in case of a campus event, as well as other protocols and procedures in place to keep the campus and the UNMC community safe, as well as to address any wellness or student-specific concerns.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
