{"id":103444,"date":"2023-09-29T02:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-29T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=103444"},"modified":"2023-09-28T16:18:36","modified_gmt":"2023-09-28T21:18:36","slug":"unmc-college-of-public-health-announces-new-drph-concentration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/09\/29\/unmc-college-of-public-health-announces-new-drph-concentration\/","title":{"rendered":"UNMC College of Public Health announces new DrPH concentration"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>The UNMC College of Public Health announced it will launch a third concentration of the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) program in advocacy and leadership in fall 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The advocacy and leadership concentration is designed for public health practitioners with at least five years of public health practice experience who want training and skills in communication, community organizing, evaluation and leadership theory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DrPH program first launched in spring 2021 and has&nbsp;47&nbsp;current students working in various sectors of public health across the world. The impetus for designing the new concentration was the demand for this type of education for public health practitioners, based on the number of program applicants; the current program has an acceptance rate of 10% or less each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DrPH at UNMC is unique for being offered fully online and asynchronous, making it ideal for working professionals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ali S. Khan, MD, MPH, dean of the UNMC College of Public Health, emphasized the importance of this new concentration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe college is committed to teaching advanced leadership and advocacy skills,\u201d Dr. Khan said. \u201cThis concentration is designed for practitioners worldwide,&nbsp;regardless of their place, space or position in their organization,&nbsp;who want to lead efforts to improve health and reduce injuries for everyone in their community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This program also will prepare them to navigate an increasingly complex set of threats to achieve
