Public Health Early Admissions Student Track (PHEAST<\/a>) undergraduate students and a student interested in public health visited UNMC\u2019s College of Public Health on Oct. 2 to learn more about public health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PHEAST is a health professions pathway program designed to recruit, educate, and graduate public health leaders committed to improving public health in Nebraska. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students attended a college tour, and then received a warm welcome from associate professor and Graduate Program Director of Biostatistics, Chris Wichman, PhD, who provided an overview of how biostatistics functions within all public health professions. Then, they heard from associate professor, Athena Ramos, PhD, and team lead for the Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health. Both of their insights into the multifaceted nature of public health set the stage for an enriching experience. Lastly, students met with other COPH staff critical to their success as future graduate public health students. With the knowledge gained and the connections forged, they left eager to continue their pursuit of a brighter, healthier future for all.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Students who participate in PHEAST are provided mentoring, free tuition during their junior and senior years at their undergraduate institution, a scholarship for the Foundations of Public Health course, a three-credit-hour graduate course required as part of the Master of Public Health program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PHEAST students who successfully complete their undergraduate program of study also benefit from guaranteed admission into the Master of Public Health program in the UNMC College of Public Health. Students from the University of Nebraska Kearney, Chadron State College, Peru State College, and Wayne State College are eligible to apply for the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
