{"id":104013,"date":"2023-10-16T01:54:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-16T06:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=104013"},"modified":"2023-10-13T15:30:26","modified_gmt":"2023-10-13T20:30:26","slug":"great-plains-leadership-institute-kicks-off-18th-cohort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/10\/16\/great-plains-leadership-institute-kicks-off-18th-cohort\/","title":{"rendered":"Great Plains Leadership Institute kicks off 18th cohort"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>This September, the Great Plains Leadership Institute offered by the UNMC College of Public Health kicked off its 18<sup>th<\/sup> cohort in Nebraska City at the Arbor Day Farm\u2019s Lied Lodge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The institute is an immersive, year-long experience designed for emerging, mid-level and senior leaders from the Great Plains region\u00a0and beyond, who play essential roles in keeping communities healthy. This year, the institute has 27 scholars from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, South Dakota and Minnesota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scholars come from organizations that include governmental public health, medical institutions, community health centers, academic institutions, community-based organizations and the business community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clinicians, staff and faculty&nbsp;interested in investing in their leadership skills are encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The robust experiential&nbsp;curriculum includes on-site and distance-based learning, mentoring and coaching, and collaborative practice projects. The curriculum is separated into eight distinct competencies that are covered throughout the year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Owning your leadership&nbsp;identity;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Valuing culture and&nbsp;differences;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing others;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leading positive change;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Influencing organizational culture;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creating effective partnerships;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Building political savvy;&nbsp;and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interpreting complex systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Scholars learn from experts in the field, including Great Plains Leadership Institute faculty, guest speakers, peer mentors and professional mentors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each year, applications for the institute open in early spring and close in June.
