{"id":104240,"date":"2023-10-18T13:36:26","date_gmt":"2023-10-18T18:36:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=104240"},"modified":"2023-11-02T12:49:33","modified_gmt":"2023-11-02T17:49:33","slug":"american-society-of-anesthesiology-annual-meeting-highlights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/10\/18\/american-society-of-anesthesiology-annual-meeting-highlights\/","title":{"rendered":"American Society of Anesthesiology annual meeting highlights"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>The American Society of Anesthesiology\u2019s (ASA) annual meeting draws anesthesiologists from all over the globe, and the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology turned out in force to give presentations, participate in panels, discuss new research and collaborate on leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty, fellows and residents from the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology attended the Oct. 13-16 annual meeting held this year in San Francisco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe annual anesthesiology meeting is the biggest meeting in our specialty and connecting with medical students interested in anesthesiology is one of the highlights of the conference,\u201d said Executive Vice Chair Mohanad Shukry, MD, PhD. \u201cOur education leadership and residents did a fantastic job talking to future residents. Pester worked under the mentorship of department faculty Cale Kassel, MD, and Trevor Wilke, MD, to observe the outcomes and adverse effects of liver transplant patients at Nebraska Medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Bartels was presented with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/10\/16\/karsten-bartels-md-phd-recipient-of-the-2023-james-e-cottrell-presidential-scholar-award\/\">2023 James E. Cottrell Presidential Scholar Award<\/a> during the Celebration of Research at the annual meeting. The award is presented annually to a physician-scientist who has dedicated their early career to research while fulfilling other areas of responsibility related to their roles as faculty and clinicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The department was strongly represented in ASA leadership activities, with Robert Lobato, MD, and Cale Kassel, MD, serving as representatives in the ASA\u2019s House of Delegates.
