Dozens of members of the UNMC Chancellor\u2019s Board of Counselors visited the Munroe-Meyer Institute for tours of the facility last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the statewide citizen advisory group serve as ambassadors for UNMC \u2014 learning about the university\u2019s programs and initiatives and sharing knowledge with their communities \u2014 as well as providing advice and counsel to campus leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MMI impressed the board members from the start, with some guests pausing to admire the artwork near the main entrance as the tour began in the building\u2019s lobby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the second floor, the counselors learned about and saw the gym, the warm- and cold-water swimming pools, Virtual Reality Laboratory and the Caring for Champions program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MMI Director Karoly Mirnics, MD, PhD, called the Board of Counselors a \u201clifeline of the university\u201d and said he\u2019s grateful for their support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Board of Counselors is an amazing group of individuals from across the state of Nebraska who are dedicated to UNMC,\u201d Dr. Mirnics said. \u201cWe are very proud to showcase our achievements.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit was a first for Sara Kohen of Omaha, director of advancement at Friedel Jewish Academy, who is in her second year on the board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kohen said she came in excited to learn more about MMI\u2019s programming and patient care. After the tour, she was struck by how welcoming the space is and how many opportunities it provides for families in the broader community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s amazing how multifaceted the patient care is,\u201d Kohen said. \u201cIt seems to do a good job of pairing traditional care with cutting-edge technology and research.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
