The UNMC College of Medicine received grant and funding awards representing more than $13.6 million in new funding in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don Coulter, MD,<\/strong> pediatrics-hematology\/oncology, received a $2.7 million grant from NE DHHS for the CHRI Pediatric Cancer Research Group (State Funds).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lynda Harris, PhD,<\/strong> obstetrics and gynecology, received a $2.65 million grant from DHHS\/NIH\/NIDA for a study on strategies to define and mitigate the placental and fetal alterations caused by maternal oxycodone exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Davis, PhD,<\/strong> obstetrics and gynecology, received a $1.75 million grant for a study on Metabolic and Mitochondrial Signals During Ovulation from the U.S. Department of Agriculture; a $424,584 grant renewal from Wichita State University for a study on The Aging Pituitary\/Gonadal Axis, Project 2: Role of Glycosylation in FSH Signaling in FSH Target Cells; and a $422,125 grant from DHHS\/NIH\/NICHD for a study on elucidating the role of YAP and TAZ in the aging human ovary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shilpa Buch, PhD,<\/strong> pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, received a $1.15 million grant from the University of California – San Diego for a study on single cell determinants of brain in the context of viral persistence in SIV\/cART\/cocaine non-human primates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yulong Li, MD, PhD<\/strong>, emergency medicine, received a $594,440 grant from the DHHS\/NIH\/NHLBI for a study on optogenetic silencing to achieve antiarrhythmic effect of renal denervation in chronic heart failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bin Duan, PhD,<\/strong> internal medicine-cardiovascular, received a grant of $ 437,331 from DHHS\/NIH\/NINDS for a study on the development of optoelectronically active nerve adhesive for accelerating peripheral nerve repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paul Thomes, PhD<\/strong>, internal medicine-GI, received a grant of $402,938 from DHHS\/NIH\/NIAAA for a study on the Role of Lysosome Damage in ALD Pathogenesis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gus Wang, PhD<\/strong>, pathology\/microbiology, received a $383,750 grant from DHHS\/NIH\/NIAID for a study on novel antimicrobials to combat Gram-negative bacteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scot Ouellette, PhD,<\/strong> pathology\/microbiology, received a $241,875 grant from DHHS\/NIH\/NIAID for a study on Characterizing the Redoxome of Chlamydia and Its Host Cell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanjun Wang, MD,<\/strong> anesthesiology, received a $230,250 grant from DHHS\/NIH\/NHLBI for a study on Novel Stellate Ganglia Chemo-ablation Approach to Treat Cardiac Arrhythmia and Cardiac Remodeling in Heart Failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ann Anderson Berry, MD, PhD,<\/strong> pediatrics-newborn medicine, received a $200,000 grant from DHHS\/HRSA for the Nebraska Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative, Striving for Excellence in Perinatal Care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

P. James Murphy, MD, <\/strong>internal medicine-pulmonary, received $179,030 grant from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for the CFF Center Adult Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jingwei Xie, PhD<\/strong>, surgery-transplant, received a $109,125 grant from NE DHHS – LB606 for a study on Ritonavir-eluting Nanofiber Scaffolds for Inhibition of Heterotopic Ossification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ricia Hyde, PhD,<\/strong> biochemistry and molecular biology, received a $109,125 grant from NE DHHS – LB606 for a study on Hematopoietic Stem Cells and Bone Marrow Failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bryant England, MD, PhD, <\/strong>internal medicine-rheumatology, received a $100,000 grant from the Rheumatology Research Foundation for a study on Quantitative Imaging Analysis of Chest Computerized Tomography in Rheumatoid Arthritis-Associated Interstitial Lung Disease — CDA Supplement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siddappa Byrareddy, PhD, <\/strong>pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, received a $93,942 grant from the University of Minnesota for a study on Targeting HIV-specific CAR T cells to the gut for the durable remission of HIV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Santhi Gorantla, PhD, <\/strong>pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, received a $76,750 grant from George Washington University for a study on novel pathogenic mechanism of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laura Anne Graeff-Armas, MD, PhD, <\/strong>internal medicine-DEM, received a grant of $50,109 from the Nebraska Educational Biomedical Research Association for as Nebraka ICA for ZEUS Project for Jenna Eggert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julia Bridge, MD,<\/strong> pathology\/microbiology, received a $36,289 grant from the Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital for a study on the molecular annotation of rhabdomyosarcoma tissue microarrays (TMAs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott Campbell, PhD,<\/strong> pathology\/microbiology, received a $35,000 grant from the College of American Pathologists for a study on In Vitro Diagnostic Encoded Test Result Data Exchange, Validation, and Quality Improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amanda Macke, PhD,<\/strong> biochemistry and molecular biology, received a grant of $33,227 from DHHS\/NIH\/NIA for a study on the impact of alcohol-induced ATF6-mediated ER stress and Golgi disorganization on pro-metastatic glycosylation of integrins in prostate cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cyrus Desouza, MBBS,<\/strong> internal medicine\/DEM, received a $27,281 grant from the Nebraska Educational Biomedical Research Association for a study on NEBRA ICA for Ramesh Ramalingam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
