Forty years ago today, Nov. 1, 1983, was my first day as faculty at UNMC and the hospital medical staff. The photo above captures a younger version of me. This post is an anniversary message, not to celebrate my longevity, but to say thank you to the hundreds of colleagues whom I have worked with in the UNMC Department of Pathology and Microbiology, Dean’s Office, Peter Kiewit Institute, Vice Chancellor for Research Office, UNeMed, University Technology Development Corporation, President’s Office of the University of Nebraska System and most recently as CEO of Nebraska Medicine. All of you have my heartfelt gratitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, we produced this video<\/a> to show donors the breathtaking transformation of the campus throughout my 40 years. Philanthropy has helped us add 25 new buildings, allowing us to double student enrollment and resident training, dramatically increase research funding and achieve a four-fold increase in patient visits while providing amazing new treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
