Editor’s note: The reopening of Farnam Street was delayed one day. It is now scheduled to open after 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Farnam Street \u2013 from 48th<\/sup> Street to Saddle Creek Road \u2013 will reopen to midtown motorists Thursday (Nov. 30).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The street has been closed since late April, as the City of Omaha Public Works Department has worked to improve existing traffic flow and safety, as well as accommodate traffic flow with the westward expansion of UNMC\u2019s campus and the Saddle Creek development project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The improvements include grading, burial of an Omaha Public Power District high-voltage transmission line and installation of a new traffic signal at 46th<\/sup> and Farnam streets. In addition, 46th<\/sup> Street will be extended south through UNMC\u2019s Saddle Creek District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brian Spencer, executive director of campus development and planning for UNMC and Nebraska Medicine, said the work \u201csets the stage for the growth and development in the Saddle Creek District aimed at improving access for folks coming to midtown Omaha, while also supporting significant future development over time as we build the best place to live, work and play in our region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Motorists will see additional roadwork this spring at the intersection of Saddle Creek Road and Leavenworth Street.<\/p>\n
