When the mornings are cold and someone is running late, it can be tempting to park in one of the designated patient parking lots, such as those close to Durham Outpatient Center or Clarkson Tower, on the UNMC and Nebraska Medical Center campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It may look like there is plenty of room. Someone might find themselves thinking, \u201cWhat\u2019s one more car?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, when staff park in lots reserved for patients and visitors, it can create complex challenges. Some patients and visitors have mobility issues that require them to be near an entrance. Other times, they have memorized how to get to their appointment through one particular door. If the lot is full, they could feel lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So please park in the assigned lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alternate parking arrangements<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Individuals parking a vehicle without a valid permit displayed, such as a rental or secondary vehicle, or in an area other than the assigned lot are required to call UNMC Parking Services for an authorization at 402-559-8580. Failure to obtain authorization may result in a parking citation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNMC Parking Services oversees all parking lots and garages on the Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC campus. Visit its parking information webpage<\/a> to review the parking handbook and parking maps, get added to the parking wait list, pay fines and file appeals. Stop by the UNMC Parking Services Office at 4230 Leavenworth Street, room 3037, call or email UNMC Parking Services<\/a> with any questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TravelSmart program<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The TravelSmart program promotes healthier modes of travel and reduces parking pressure and vehicle emissions on campus. As a TravelSmart participant, UNMC colleagues can take advantage of a free carpool permit, free Metro bus rides and free indoor\/secure bike parking, as well as access lockers and shower facilities if biking or walking to campus.
