Today\u2019s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day program, sponsored by the Nebraska Medicine Inclusion and Diversity Office and the UNMC Office of Inclusion, will be a virtual event due to the weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Med center colleagues, as well as members of the public, can access the event here<\/a>. The program begins at noon. Pre-registration no longer is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leadership will open the program with the welcome and statement of occasion followed by keynote speaker Walter Vincent Brooks, African American journalist, social research investigator and community activist. Brooks is the author of\u00a0\u201cTrust No Shadows After Dark: African American Genocide in the United States of America,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0which can be purchased at Aframerican Book Store, 3226 Lake St., for those interested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third annual Unsung Hero Award recipients will be announced during the program. The Unsung Hero Award celebrates colleagues at Nebraska Medicine, UNMC and\/or Clarkson College who give back and serve others through volunteerism, service, outreach, mentorship or encouragement, either in their workplace or their community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
