{"id":107026,"date":"2024-01-22T01:58:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-22T07:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=107026"},"modified":"2024-01-19T16:09:31","modified_gmt":"2024-01-19T22:09:31","slug":"living-library-to-focus-on-womens-health-discussions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/01\/22\/living-library-to-focus-on-womens-health-discussions\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Living library&#8217; to focus on women&#8217;s health discussions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>Join the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/library\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">McGoogan Health Sciences Library<\/a> online Feb. 6 from noon-1 p.m. for its living library event, in which people are \u201cliving books\u201d who share their unique experiences and inspiring stories in a small-group setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The focus of this year\u2019s event is \u201cBringing Stories of Women\u2019s Health to the Forefront<em>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emily Glenn, dean of the McGoogan Library, said, \u201cWe are excited to welcome the UNMC, Nebraska Medicine and Children\u2019s Nebraska communities to our second living library event. This event centers diverse voices in storytelling and information sharing to enact McGoogan Library&#8217;s mission of connecting the past, informing the present and building the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have a tremendous group of people who have agreed to be our living books for this event and share their stories,\u201d said Jess King, education and research services librarian at McGoogan Library and principal investigator for the \u201cLiving Library: Bringing Stories of Women\u2019s Health to the Forefront\u201d project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Individuals interested in attending the virtual event need to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/unmc.formstack.com\/forms\/living_library_virtual\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Register for the event<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then sign up to receive the <a href=\"https:\/\/unmc.zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/tJMlcuusrDwpE9VeNUXdBM5JsogOwN7libJx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zoom link.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Registration for the event closes at noon on Monday, Feb. 5. When registering, individuals will be able to select one of ten living books to speak with and hear their story. Attendees will be able to engage with their selected book for 30 to 45 minutes. Due to the sensitivity of this topic, attendees must be ages 19 and older to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the event, attendees are encouraged to review the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.unmc.edu\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2024\/01\/LivingLibrary-AudiencePreparation-v2-Virtual.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">audience guidelines document<\/a> to ensure open, respectful conversations take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur books will be sharing their perspective on a variety of women\u2019s health topics,\u201d King said, \u201cincluding autism, urinary incontinence, dissociative identity disorder (DID), unique and complicated pregnancies and more. Our hope is that this event sheds light on areas of women\u2019s health that our students, faculty and staff may not be as familiar with, allows for candid conversations, and provides an opportunity for learning and growth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cLiving Library: Bringing Stories of Women\u2019s Health to the Forefront\u201d project is funded in part by a grant from <a href=\"https:\/\/humanitiesnebraska.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Humanities Nebraska<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/nebraskaculturalendowment.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nebraska Cultural Endowment<\/a> and sponsored by McGoogan Health Sciences Library.
