{"id":107363,"date":"2024-02-01T01:54:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-01T07:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=107363"},"modified":"2024-02-08T10:41:47","modified_gmt":"2024-02-08T16:41:47","slug":"it-raises-alert-on-microsoft-teams-issue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/02\/01\/it-raises-alert-on-microsoft-teams-issue\/","title":{"rendered":"IT raises alert on Microsoft Teams issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>UNMC and Nebraska Medicine Information Technology has become aware of a situation that raised the potential for risk to the organization.&nbsp;With the increase of artificial intelligence, or AI, within such tools as Bing search, it is important that med center colleagues heighten their sense of security.&nbsp;Bing introduced the ability to search within UNMC and Nebraska Medicine environments while being logged in with med center sign in credentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When a Microsoft Team site is created by a user, it can be created as either a <strong>Private<\/strong> or a <strong>Public<\/strong> team.\u00a0<strong>A Private team <\/strong>should most often be selected so that documents and data are only available to the members of the private team.\u00a0A <strong>Public team<\/strong> should only be used for teams that won\u2019t have any confidential information, HIPAA, FERPA or any elements of protected health information (PHI) or personally identifiable information (PII) on the team. Public teams are searchable by any person with a Nebraska Medicine or UNMC email account. As such, there should not be any employee, student or patient data shared in this location to remain in compliance with regulatory requirements.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Microsoft Teams security change<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When a Microsoft Team is created it can be set as either \u201cPrivate\u201d or \u201cPublic.&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"733\" height=\"332\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/MicrosoftTeams1020124.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-107369\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/MicrosoftTeams1020124.png 733w, https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/MicrosoftTeams1020124-300x136.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 733px) 100vw, 733px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Microsoft Teams currently configured as \u201cPublic\u201d will be changed to \u201cPrivate\u201d on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. This change is happening to protect med center data and to avoid potential security risks to the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If anyone is an owner of a Team that needs to be \u201cPublic,\u201d they will be able to change it back by following these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on the <strong>three dots<\/strong> to the right of the Team name.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Select <strong>Manage Team<\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose the <strong>Setting tab<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the <strong>Edit button<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the <strong>Privacy<\/strong> option and select \u201cPublic \u2013 Anyone in your organization can join.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure
