The Olson Center for Women\u2019s Health, in conjunction with Nebraska Medicine Cardiovascular Services, will address heart health for women in an upcoming three-part virtual lecture series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the U.S. and can affect women at any age. The Olson Center will co-host a series, \u201cLet\u2019s Talk About Heart Health in Women\u201d to bring attention to this\u00a0health issue. Each session will be provided virtually,\u00a0and\u00a0meeting links will be emailed to registrants prior to\u00a0each\u00a0event.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each lecture is detailed below with dates and times. Attendees are welcome to register for one, two or all three lectures. To register, email the Olson Women\u2019s Health Resource Center<\/a>, call 402-559-6345 or visit the Engage links listed below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lecture 1: Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) in Women and Stress Testing, presented by Neha Goyal, MD<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday, Feb. 8, 11 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death for women. Recognition of signs and symptoms is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lecture 2: Heart Failure and Women, presented by Christina Dunbar Matos, DO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monday, Feb. 12, 12:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heart failure is a disease that impacts both men and women. This session will describe how to recognize risk factors for heart failure, as well as the warning signs and treatment options that are essential in controlling it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This lecture is free, however if an attendee would like to obtain nursing credit, the cost is $15. Payment instructions will be given at registration. Nursing credit can only be obtained for watching the live stream of the virtual presentation, not for viewing the recording after the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by University of Nebraska Medical Center and Olson Center for Women\u2019s Health. University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University of Nebraska Medical Center designates this activity for 1.0 ANCC contact hours. Nurses should only claim credit for the actual time spent participating in this activity. Course ID: 24OL00025<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lecture 3: Atrial Fibrillation: Understanding the Mechanisms and Treatment Options, presented by Niyada Naksuk, MD<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday, Feb. 21, 11 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia, affecting more than 2.5 million Americans, and is associated with increased mortality. Despite advances in catheter ablation, atrial arrhythmia recurrence remains a persistent challenge. Compared to men, women have higher rates of adverse outcomes, including procedure-related complications, increased risk of cardiovascular admissions and stroke, as well as arrhythmia recurrence after catheter ablation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
