Ice rink schedule<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the warmer weather, UNMC\u2019s ice skating rink will be closed starting today (Feb. 2) until Monday, Feb. 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outdoor rink is nearing the end of its season, with the original plans calling for it to be open through the weekend of Feb. 9-11. Check the ice rink’s Facebook page <\/a>for the latest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Op-ed writing workshop is Feb. 14<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nebraska chapter of the Scholars Strategy Network will hold a workshop on writing op-ed pieces in an event aimed at academics, graduate students and community partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop will be led by Dominik Doemer, the Scholars Strategy Network\u2019s director of communications, and Cate Folsom, editor-in-chief for the Nebraska Examiner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doemer helps university-based scholars and researchers connect with the media, write opinion pieces for national and local outlets and develop a media strategy for their work. Folsom has more than 40 years of experience in journalism, including formerly serving as editorial page editor at the Omaha World-Herald.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop is scheduled for Feb. 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center at the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus. Food and beverages will be provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Scholars Strategy Network, participants will learn how to craft a good lead, identify and incorporate timely news hooks, signal the author\u2019s unique and relevant expertise, increase the likelihood of publication and structure an op-ed for maximum impact. Participants will practice writing an op-ed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food vendors on campus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food vendors are available weekdays on the UNMC Omaha campus. Vendors are located on both the east and west sides of campus, serving from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
