Paustian Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, his collaboration with Nebraska Food for Health and his research program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Debra Romberger, MD, chair of the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, announced Dr. Mannon\u2019s decision last month. He remains a UNMC faculty member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDr. Mannon has worked tirelessly as chief for the past four years to support the division and its missions,\u201d Dr. Romberger said. \u201cI have much gratitude for his commitment and accomplishments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Rochling completed medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. He was a resident in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, completed his hepatology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern and his GI fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He was faculty at the University of Arkansas before coming to UNMC as faculty in 2002. He now is a professor at UNMC and chief of gastroenterology at the Omaha VA. He was the interim chief of UNMC GI\/hepatology division in 2019-2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are fortunate to have a gastroenterologist and hepatologist of Dr. Rochling\u2019s caliber take on the role of continuing to grow the academic and clinical missions of the division,\u201d Dr. Romberger said. \u201cI look forward to what he will bring to the division and to the leadership team of the department.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Mannon expressed gratitude for the dedication of the faculty and staff of the division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe implemented many changes and I appreciate the cooperation and hard work of those in my division,\u201d he said. \u201cI am grateful to have provided leadership for the division and I look forward to working together for a productive future.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former chief Peter Mannon, MD, will focus on his role as director of the Frederick F.
