{"id":108659,"date":"2024-03-04T02:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-04T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=108659"},"modified":"2024-03-01T15:34:23","modified_gmt":"2024-03-01T21:34:23","slug":"event-cuts-ribbon-to-the-very-best-student-health-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/03\/04\/event-cuts-ribbon-to-the-very-best-student-health-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Event cuts ribbon to &#8216;the very best student health services&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>UNMC and Nebraska Medicine leaders joined together Friday to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Nebraska Medicine UNMC Student Health Clinic, which opened in a fully renovated and dedicated space in the UNMC Student Life Center last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, and Nebraska Medicine CEO Jim Linder, MD, opened the ceremony with a moment of silence to mark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/03\/01\/university-unmc-mourn-passing-of-longtime-supporter-bill-scott\/\">the passing of Bill Scott<\/a>, who with his wife Ruth supported numerous UNMC, Nebraska Medicine and University of Nebraska initiatives, including the Student Life Center where the clinic is located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Gold said UNMC students would appreciate the new, student-dedicated clinic, adding it was not only an impressive clinical space, but featured \u201cthe very best student health services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe facilities are always an important part of the equation,\u201d he said. \u201cBut at the end of the day, it&#8217;s the serious medicine and the extraordinary care and caring that really defines the experience of any health care initiative, particularly as it relates to our students and future health care professionals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Gold introduced Dr. Linder by thanking him for the enthusiastic partnership in the new clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group callout\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clinic hours<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Monday: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tuesday: Noon-4 p.m.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wednesday: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thursday: Noon-4 p.m<ins>.<\/ins><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Friday: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Student Health Clinic number is unchanged: 402-559-7204.&nbsp;<strong>UNMC students only<\/strong>&nbsp;can make appointments by calling that number. 24-hour care also is available by calling that number and speaking to a health care professional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Information on scheduling an appointment for&nbsp;<strong>UNMC students only<\/strong>&nbsp;is available at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/student-success\/student-health\/student-health-services\/schedule-appointment.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this link for the Nebraska Medicine UNMC Student Health Clinic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Linder called the new clinic essential, noting that receiving effective and empathetic care would help UNMC\u2019s health professions students prepare for their own future health care careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou have a great chance to impact those students as they transfer into their next phase of their professional career to benefit all people in our community,\u201d he said to the clinic\u2019s professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNMC Student Senate President Katie Schultis thanked the student leaders who came before her, as well as the Nebraska Medicine and university leaders, who worked on what Dr. Gold called a \u201cyears-long\u201d effort to create the clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re excited,\u201d Schultis said. \u201cWe&#8217;re very thankful for the support we&#8217;ve had.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schultis said it was an advantage for students to get health care in space separate from the Nebraska Medical Center, where they might work or learn in areas where they also would receive care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI know that students such as myself will benefit from being able to get health care in a place right next to where we are attending classes,\u201d she said. \u201cStudents, as you may know, are sometimes busy, and so to be able to come here and get our health care in this facility, right next to the amazing Counseling and Psychological Services, the Center for Healthy Living, all areas where we really can become fully healthy individuals, is amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phil Covington, EdD, associate vice chancellor for student success, was excited to see the ribbon cut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis ceremony is the culmination of students saying, for a variety of reasons, that they needed a dedicated space for a student health clinic,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I\u2019m thrilled that, as a result, we will get to partner with Nebraska Medicine. I\u2019m thrilled to be able to enhance the level of service by creating this student wellness hub in the Student Life
