{"id":109817,"date":"2024-04-03T01:50:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-03T06:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=109817"},"modified":"2024-04-01T15:13:55","modified_gmt":"2024-04-01T20:13:55","slug":"brain-and-spine-cancer-symposium-set-for-april-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/04\/03\/brain-and-spine-cancer-symposium-set-for-april-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Brain and spine cancer symposium set for April 19"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>Registration now is open for the \u201cGrey Matters: Brain and Spine Cancer Symposium,\u201d which will be held April 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The half-day symposium is designed to update physicians, advanced practice providers, residents and fellows working in adult oncology and hematology, internal medicine, radiation oncology, neurosurgery, neurology and pathology on the current multidisciplinary approach to patients with newly diagnosed or recurrent gliomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Discuss cutting-edge brain and spine cancer research initiatives and resources originating from trials at Nebraska Medicine;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summarize the collective responsibility of the multidisciplinary team approach in managing patients with newly diagnosed or recurrent gliomas for optimized patient outcomes while emphasizing shared accountability;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explain the importance of obtaining molecular testing in brain tumor patients for more personalized treatment strategies; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explain how gliomas can impact patients\u2019 cognitive and physical function.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>UNMC presenters will include Michelle Aizenberg, MD, professor of neurosurgery; Nicole Shonka, MD, associate professor of oncology and hematology; Chi \u201cKevin\u201d Zhang, MD, PhD, associate professor of radiation oncology; Olga Taraschenko, MD, PhD, associate professor of neurological sciences; and Sahara Cathcart, MD, assistant professor of pathology, microbiology and immunology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The symposium will be held at the UNMC Sorrell Center, room 1005.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>See more information about the symposium on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Symposium040324.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this flier<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/cce\/grey-matters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Register here<\/a>.
