Drs. Doyle, Gih become members of Academy College of Psychiatrists<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNMC Department of Psychiatry faculty members Marley Doyle, MD, and Daniel Gih, MD, became members of the prestigious American College of Psychiatrists. The organization comprises more than 750 psychiatrists who have demonstrated excellence in psychiatry and achieved national recognition in clinical practice, research, academic leadership or teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were inducted during the group\u2019s annual conference in February in New Orleans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Doyle, director of the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska, said she\u2019s excited to be inducted as a new member. \u201cWhat an honor to join many of my mentors, and I hope I can live up to their examples,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Gih said being accepted into the American College of Psychiatrists is like being voted into the psychiatry hall of fame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt looks at what you have done to show that you\u2019ve been an outstanding contributor to the field in one of the main areas: clinical practice, teaching, research, leadership,\u201d he said. \u201cThe key to this organization is that you can\u2019t just walk into it. You must be nominated by other members, fellows, people who know you well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Howard Liu, MD, also a member of the American College of Psychiatrists, said it\u2019s a wonderful honor for the two psychiatrists and the department. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDr. Doyle has elevated BHECN to another level in state workforce. Dr. Gih has built our residency program in record time,\u201d said Dr. Liu, chair of the department. \u201cBoth are true leaders in psychiatry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Farewell tea is April 11 for Kim Schenarts, PhD<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNMC College of Medicine will hold a farewell tea for Kim Schenarts, PhD, on Thursday, April 11, from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Linder Reading Room at the Sorrell Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Schenarts, a professor of surgery, joined UNMC in 2013. She is a former president of the Association for Surgical Education and in 2015 she received the ASE Distinguished Educator Award. For the past five years, Dr. Schenarts has held the role of College of Medicine Wellness Advocate. She also has served as director of the Surgical Education Research Fellowship program and vice chair for education in the department of surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDr. Schenarts\u2019 work with the college\u2019s wellness initiatives has been an invaluable support to our students and staff,\u201d Dean Bradley Britigan, MD, said. \u201cIn that role and others, she has been an important part of our team both at the department of surgery and through the entire college of medicine. We will be sorry to see her go, but we wish her well in this exciting new chapter in her life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Results are in for med center food drive<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The med center’s systemwide food drive last month had a goal to collect 1,000 pounds of food. In total, it collected 2,152 pounds between all campus and community locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe incredible generosity of our Nebraska Medicine and UNMC colleagues throughout this food drive is the perfect embodiment of our Healing ITEACH value,\u201d said Becky Jackson, manager of community health with Nebraska Medicine. \u201cAs food insecurity continues to rise within our community, the donated food will have a meaningful impact on our patients and community.\u201d    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All items were evenly distributed among three local nonprofit organizations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
