“What were you wearing?” is a common question asked of survivors of sexual assault and sexual violence. The \u201cWhat Were You Wearing?\u201d exhibit \u2013 available this week in both the Durham Research Center and Sorrell Center commons areas \u2013 asks viewers to reconsider this question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The self-guided exhibit is sponsored by EMPOWER, a legacy service-learning student organization, in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and is available through Friday, April 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EMPOWER also is sponsoring a noon presentation today (April 17) with Ashley Farrens, a violence prevention program supervisor at Nebraska Medicine with experience working as an emergency department and trauma program nurse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Farrens will discuss \u201cEmpathy & Understanding with Trauma-Informed Care,\u201d focusing on empathy, awareness, self-reflection and navigating emotions. She also will highlight the role of trauma-informed care for working with and treating victims and survivors of sexual assault and gender-based violence with empathy and care. Her presentation will be available in-person in the Sorrell Center, Room 2018, and via Zoom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
