{"id":110705,"date":"2024-04-25T01:56:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-25T06:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=110705"},"modified":"2024-04-24T14:19:04","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T19:19:04","slug":"public-health-leadership-institute-accepting-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/04\/25\/public-health-leadership-institute-accepting-applications\/","title":{"rendered":"Public health leadership institute accepting applications"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>The UNMC College of Public Health\u2019s Great Plains Leadership Institute is accepting applications for its 19<sup>th<\/sup> cohort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The institute is an immersive, year-long experience designed for emerging, mid-level and senior leaders from the Great Plains region&nbsp;and beyond, who play essential roles in keeping communities healthy. This year, the institute will have 27 scholars from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, South Dakota and Minnesota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scholars come from various organizations, including governmental public health, medical institutions, community health centers, academic institutions, community-based organizations and the business community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interested clinicians, staff and faculty\u00a0are encouraged to apply. Applications are open through June 7 and can be accessed on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/publichealth\/ophp\/workforce\/gpli\/apply\/materials.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UNMC College of Public Health web page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The robust experiential&nbsp;curriculum includes on-site and distance-based learning, mentoring and coaching and collaborative practice projects. The curriculum is separated into eight distinct competencies that are covered throughout the year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Owning your leadership\u00a0identity;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Valuing culture and\u00a0differences;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing others;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leading positive change;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Influencing organizational culture;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creating effective partnerships;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Building political savvy;\u00a0and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interpreting complex systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Scholars learn from experts in the field, including Great Plains Leadership Institute faculty, guest speakers and peer and professional mentors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To
